Samantha Micael, LMFT

Welcome to Micael Counseling! My name is Samantha (she/her), and I’ve been practicing as a marriage and family therapist since 2016. Since I can remember, I have been fascinated with relationships, always curious to better understand how our life experiences shape our identity and impact our mental health along the way.

My primary work experience has been in nonprofit community-based mental health. I have worked in in-home and outpatient settings providing individual, couples, family, and group therapy to support clients in addressing their mental health and/or substance use concerns. It’s my personal philosophy that you are the expert on your own life, and I will always seek a collaborative experience to best meet your needs. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a systemic framework, meaning I believe our mental health is the symptom of our interactions with others and the world around us. I am empathic and solution-focused in my work, while also utilizing evidence-based practices to effectively address your goals in treatment.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, being a plant mom to many pothos, and staying up to date on all things pop culture. I identify as a cishet Black woman, born and raised in New Britain, CT, and am a first-generation American born to Eritrean immigrants (Eritrea is a country on the horn of Africa if you’re curious to learn more!). I am deeply passionate about working with Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) and other marginalized communities. Ultimately, I hope my practice can provide a safe space for those who otherwise are not given enough opportunities to talk about difficult subjects, like their mental health. At Micael Counseling, I invite you to be your most authentic self, so we can cultivate a space of mutual respect and acceptance.
